Wedding aftermath

Took Emilia’s parents and aunt to the Franklin Park Conservatory. A wedding just finished up and we viewed the aftermath of the event. These once beautiful roses, so carefully picked out and arranged by the couple, now lay wilted, helplessly strapped to rented chairs. We thought about our upcoming wedding, only 5 days away and all the planning and preparation that has taken place over the past months. So much time invested in an event that lasts only a few hours. We too look forward to the aftermath.

Chicago Bean

This is the Bean in Chicago’s Millennium Park. Officially known as the Cloud Gate, it was designed by Anish Kapoor, a British artist. By the time of its completion, the cost had skyrocketed to 23 million dollars, from the initial estimate of 6 million. Makes a nice mirror to put your makeup on, huh ladies?

Golden Anniversary

This wedding cake topper is 50 years young, just like Bob & Janet who celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary. As Emilia and I look towards our own wedding in September, we rejoice in knowing that love can, and does last forever.

Union Cemetery

While in Steubenville, Ohio for the Dean Martin Festival, we drove around the city and came upon Union Cemetery – Beatty Park. This cemetery is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and boasts more than 100 species of trees and flowering plants. Filled with many historic headstones and well detailed mausoleums. The area is full of wildlife such as deer (we saw 5) and wild turkeys (saw 1). Be adventurous and find the dog marker.

Lost in translation

Sometimes, English words just do not translate well. This woman was seen in a sunglass store, in Constanta, Romania, wearing a pair of pants with the words “Major Explosive” on her rear end. I could be wrong, maybe she enjoys bean burritos and is kind enough to warn people walking behind her. Or maybe she skipped her English class one day.

Columbus skyline

After living in the Columbus, Ohio area for 6 months, felt it was time to actually take a photo of the city. Looking East towards downtown, the Scioto River reflecting the buildings.

Recess

This is the schoolhouse near Vulture Mine, outside of Wickenburg, AZ. Now, forget about the tree growing in front of the slide.

Think now…think…think.

Who in their right mind would put a metal slide in the middle of desert country?!? Guess it would be a good way to keep the kids inside studying.

”Recess time kids!”

”No, no, don’t make us, we want to stay inside!”

Tossed aside

After giving enjoyment for 30 days this Frasier Fir Christmas Tree is now waiting to be picked up by the refuse department and turned into mulch.

Luminaria

Schiller Park in Columbus was an integral part of the Village Lights. This is one of the ponds in the park, which was illuminated, along with the rest of the German Village area, with 10,000 luminaria. A beautiful evening was spent walking the park and streets listening to carolers and bands sing and play Christmas songs.

Lady Liberty

First visit to the Statue of Liberty. Impressed. 500mm lens, up close and personal. Amazing. Wasn’t allowed to take any photos of the bomb sniffing dog. There was a report of a suspicious package left at the base. The statue was closed for 30 minutes while the dog ran around. Tourists: Please throw away your garbage! It will cause disruptions! Next time will call ahead and get the limited tickets to actually go inside the base of the statue, would love to see the framework that supports her.
