Blue Ridge Sunset

The Sun setting over the Blue Ridge Mountains near Jefferson, NC in September 2008.

Yosemite Falls

Yosemite Falls is the highest measured waterfall in North America. Located in Yosemite National Park in the Sierra Nevada mountains of California, it is a major attraction in the park, especially in late spring when the water flow is at its peak. The falls actually consist of three sections, Upper Falls (1,430 ft), Middle Cascades(670 ft) and Lower Falls(320 ft). 2,420 ft from the top of the upper falls to the base of the lower falls qualifies Yosemite Falls as the sixth highest waterfall in the world.

Lake Kaweah Sunset

Lake Kaweah is fed by the Kaweah River, which originates in the Sierra Nevada at Sequoia National Park in California. Long ago, Yokuts, Wukchumne, and Kaweah people lived and hunted along this river. Spaniards were the first Europeans to explore this area two centuries ago. Settlers arrived fifty years later.

Dragonfly

To celebrate my first Father’s Day, we went to Hocking Hills to enjoy the cool caves and beautiful nature preserves in the area. While at Conkle’s Hollow, this dragonfly was finding some filtered Sun on a tree. Conkle’s Hollow is one of the most spectacular features within the Hocking Hills region. Its sheer cliffs of Black Hand sandstone rise nearly 200 feet above the valley floor. All in all, it was a great day, and nothing beats being a father.

First bath

This newborn American Robin has found the bird bath. It has been interesting watching the progression of the baby birds learning the ways of survival from their parents. What is going on in the backyard mimics what is happening inside the house, as Isabella learns new things each day from us.

American Goldfinch

Sorry for the lack of posts lately, been busy with the new baby and shooting lots of photos and videos of her. I promised you I wouldn’t turn this into a baby photo blog!

Here is an American Goldfinch in the back yard recently, was nice lighting in the morning.

Sedona, AZ

The red rocks of Sedona featuring Capitol Butte and Coffee Pot Rock, on the right side. This was taken from Airport Road overlooking the city. Single shot from 2006 with the Nikon D200, no tripod, F16, 29mm cropped. Beautiful day it was.

Bird feeder jail

After 1 inch of ice and 6 inches of snow, this bird feeder in our backyard looks more like an icy jail for birds. The Winter is reminding me of my childhood, when we would have snow on the ground the entire season and could not wait for the Spring thaw. Global warming? Ha!

Kangaroo depression

“Just take your photo and leave me alone in my misery.”

He just looks so sad. If I was stuck in a zoo in Chicago, I would be sad too. Actually, they were hopping about like crazy. Just happened to take the photo at the right time.

Mother Goose

A goose only a mother could love. Very strange looking.
