Yosemite Falls

Yosemite Falls is the highest measured waterfall in North America. Located in Yosemite National Park in the Sierra Nevada mountains of California. The 1430 foot (425m) plunge qualifies the Upper Falls alone as one of the twenty highest waterfalls in the world.

The Ahwahneechee people of Yosemite Valley called the waterfall “Cholock” and believed that the plunge pool at its base was inhabited by the spirits of several witches, called the Poloti. An Ahwaneechee folktale describes a woman going to fetch a pail of water from the pool, and drawing it out full of snakes. Later that night, after the woman had trespassed into their territory, the spirits caused the woman’s house to be sucked into the pool by a powerful wind, taking the woman and her newborn baby with her.

Vienna statue

Sometimes you can catch the light in such a way that what you photograph is different than what you are seeing. This statue was one of several in an entrance between two courtyards near Hofburg Palace in Vienna.

Calm

To me, she is showing the definition of calm, with just a hint of a Mona Lisa smile. I couldn’t decide on the color or B&W version of this photo. Click on the link at the bottom of the photo to see the 2 versions. Please leave comments on which version you like better.

Frankfurt fog

Emilia and I took a bus from Vienna to Frankfurt. It was a somewhat pleasant trip, except they pretty much refused to turn on the air conditioning on the bus. About 15 kilometers from Frankfurt we heard a series of beeps and then the driver pulled off to the side of the road. After about 10 minutes the drivers came back on the bus and started again. They never said a word to any of the passengers. Another 3 kilometers down the road and they pulled into a rest area. As I got off the bus, engine coolant was exploding from the engine. We ended up spending about an hour at the rest area and arrived in Frankfurt a little over an hour late.

This shot was taken while the bus was pulled over on the side of the road. It is a little noisy, mainly from shooting through the tinted bus windows using the Fujifilm S7000 that I had out of the backpack at the time.

Castelul Bran

Known incorrectly as Dracula’s Castle, Bran Castle, built in 1377, is actually a fortress meant to guard an important pass through the mountains near Brasov, Romania. It has been one of the favorite vacation homes for Queen Maria and Princess Ileana in the early 1900’s.

Columbus skyline

After living in the Columbus, Ohio area for 6 months, felt it was time to actually take a photo of the city. Looking East towards downtown, the Scioto River reflecting the buildings.

Untitled

The Colorado National Monument was the first stop on my trip out West in 2006. The views were indescribable, especially for someone that grew up in the flat lands of Ohio. Most of my time here was just sitting on the edges and staring for miles into nature’s beauty.

Capitol Dome

US Capitol’s “wedding cake” cast-iron dome, three times the height of the original dome and 100 feet in diameter, completed in the 1850’s after the reconstruction of the building.

Sunset at Santa Monica Pier

From my 2006 train trip through the Western USA. Taken from the Santa Monica Pier, early evening. Enjoy!
