No Shadow of Doubt

Emilia and myself, or more exact, our shadows. A shadow is a region of darkness where light is blocked. A shadow occupies all the space behind an opaque object with light in front of it. The cross section of a shadow is a two-dimensional silhouette, or reverse projection of the object blocking the light. The closer to 90 degrees the angle between an elongated object and the direction of the light it blocks, the bigger its shadow. The smaller the angle between the direction of the light and the surface on which the shadow occurs, the longer the shadow is. If the object is close to the light source, the shadow is large. If the surface is curved there are further distortions.<br /><br />(<b><u>Shadow of a Doubt</u></b> is a 1943 Alfred Hitchcock film noir which tells the story of a young woman who thinks that her visiting uncle might be a serial killer.)

Fatherly advice

My second cousin Audra recently got married. Here she is dancing with her father, and receiving some last minute advice. The look that Audra has on her face is just of pure love for her father. There is so much going on in this photo. The beautiful bride, the concentration of her father, her hand on his shoulder with her wedding band, the sparkle in her eye. Very powerful, the little girl has grown up and is now a bride. Best wishes!

Birthday hat sadness

A guest at my great-nephew’s birthday party. How can you have a sad look on your face while wearing a party hat? Actually, she was only sad when the camera was pointing in her direction. Possible future Academy Award winner here!

Making the shot

My nephew, Raymond, playing basketball during a tournament game. He made the shot and they also won the game and move forward in the bracket.

Curiosity

This is Aidan, my niece’s friend’s son. He is 10 months old and was very interested in my camera.

Leaving New Orleans

A final ride on the streetcar in New Orleans catches Sachie being reflective of her time in the city. Little did we know what changes this beautiful city had in its future, but it will survive.

Friends

2 Germans and a praying mantis. Jessi and Svea are exchange students from the past year. The praying mantis survives by using camouflage, I don’t think tie-die colors are the best solution for this one! Praying mantis are the only insect that turn from side to side in a full 180-degree angle. Their eyes are sensitive to the slightest movement up to 60 feet away. These 2 German students exhibited similar techniques when cute boys would walk pass. Nice to see we are still learning from Mother Nature.

Lunch

My friend from Japan, Sachie, checking the molars on this alligator. Good news, no cavities!

Traveling Companions

Necole and Jennifer, 2 wonderful people I met on my recent train trip to Chicago. We chatted for about 4 hours and had a great time enjoying each others’ company. They continued on to NYC, after I detrained in Toledo. You meet the greatest people while traveling on the train.

Ice Cream Cone

My nephew Zac enjoying the first ice cream cone of the season.
