Union Cemetery

While in Steubenville, Ohio for the Dean Martin Festival, we drove around the city and came upon Union Cemetery – Beatty Park. This cemetery is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and boasts more than 100 species of trees and flowering plants. Filled with many historic headstones and well detailed mausoleums. The area is full of wildlife such as deer (we saw 5) and wild turkeys (saw 1). Be adventurous and find the dog marker.

Black Sea

The Black Sea in Constanta, Romania. A sea gull and a ship on the horizon. The weekend we had was beautiful weather and surrounded by Emilia’s family who welcomed me with open arms. Can’t wait to come back here and spend more time.

Beauty in Bucharest

While Bucharest, Romania may not be the most beautiful city in Europe, it does have beauty, if you choose to look for it. This scene is inside the Village Museum. A display of actual dwellings and farms from around Romania. From churches to homes, ferris wheels to windmills, a very accurate history of this country.

Castelul Peleş

Peleş is a romantic castle in Sinaia, Romania, built between 1873 and 1883, and is considered by some to be the most beautiful in Europe and in the world. In 2006, the Romanian government announced that the castle will be returned to King Michael.

Located northwest of the town of Sinaia, 60 km from Braşov and 135 km away from Bucharest, Romania’s capital.

Lost in translation

Sometimes, English words just do not translate well. This woman was seen in a sunglass store, in Constanta, Romania, wearing a pair of pants with the words “Major Explosive” on her rear end. I could be wrong, maybe she enjoys bean burritos and is kind enough to warn people walking behind her. Or maybe she skipped her English class one day.

Frankfurt fog

Emilia and I took a bus from Vienna to Frankfurt. It was a somewhat pleasant trip, except they pretty much refused to turn on the air conditioning on the bus. About 15 kilometers from Frankfurt we heard a series of beeps and then the driver pulled off to the side of the road. After about 10 minutes the drivers came back on the bus and started again. They never said a word to any of the passengers. Another 3 kilometers down the road and they pulled into a rest area. As I got off the bus, engine coolant was exploding from the engine. We ended up spending about an hour at the rest area and arrived in Frankfurt a little over an hour late.

This shot was taken while the bus was pulled over on the side of the road. It is a little noisy, mainly from shooting through the tinted bus windows using the Fujifilm S7000 that I had out of the backpack at the time.

Greenland

First off, why is Greenland covered in ice and Iceland is covered in green?

On the flight back to the USA from Frankfurt, Germany, our flight path took us over Greenland. This was taken from about 38,000 feet from our Airbus A300. It was a crystal clear day and was just amazed at the beauty below.

Schönbrunn Palace Rose Garden

The rose garden at Schönbrunn Palace in Vienna, Austria is truly amazing. Here is a shot from the rose trellis looking back at the palace.

Mozart

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, the Austrian composer was born in 1756 in Salzburg and died at the age of 35 where he was laid to rest in a Vienna suburb.

This sculpture of Mozart stands in Burggarten in Vienna, Austria. In the foreground a garden has been created in the shape of a music clef with beautiful flowers in full blossom.

Castelul Bran

Known incorrectly as Dracula’s Castle, Bran Castle, built in 1377, is actually a fortress meant to guard an important pass through the mountains near Brasov, Romania. It has been one of the favorite vacation homes for Queen Maria and Princess Ileana in the early 1900’s.
